A father of two died after a single sucker punch to the head from a stranger ruptured a blood clot in his brain.
Ryan Thompson, 32, of Des Moines, Iowa, was standing with his fiancee, Lindsey Renee Engquist, 31, outside their home on Southwest 17th Street on Monday afternoon when a man driving a dark colored Sedan stopped, got out, and approached them, according to police documents seen by theĀ DesĀ Moines Register.
The stranger then allegedly told Thompson ‘You owe me money,’ punched him once on the side of the head, and got back into his car and drove off, leaving the father slurring his words and speaking incoherently.
A day later, Thompson died at Iowa Medical Methodist Center, after the freak incident ruptured a blood clot in his head.
A witness who was only ten-years-old told police that the suspect was white, in his 40s, with long slicked back hair and no facial hair.
Authorities have reportedly identified a suspect but no charges have been filed.
Cause of death has not been released pending an autopsy, because police need to look into whether his death was caused directly by the punch or a pre-existing medical condition.
