This is the moment French Police engaged him. Who is this man?
Local media in France report that the name of the man who drove a truck through a Bastille Day crowd in Nice, killing at least 80 people, is Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel.
Little is know about the 31-year-old Bouhlel at this time. According to some reports, he was a local “known to police” with several misdemeanor arrests. In his day job, he was a delivery man who drove a truck, and he was married with three children.
At this time, police have not confirmed or denied Boulhel’s identity. But tellingly, they did search his apartment in the middle of the night following the attack.
Likewise, police have not yet commented or confirmed Boulhel’s motive. According to at least one witness, Boulhel yelled “Allahu Akbar” during the attack, but neighbors say he was not a particularly religious man who didn’t observe Ramadan.
