Earthquakes have been increasing in frequency recently all over the world, but you really have to start to worry when the ground moves in areas known for little to no seismic activity like Florida for instance. Imagine what residents were thinking at the time and the thoughts going through their minds.
According to WESH 2:
A magnitude-3.7 earthquake struck Saturday off the coast of Daytona Beach Shores, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The quake happened at 4 p.m., and was centered about 105 miles off the coast of Daytona Beach, the USGS said.
Florida is not considered to be a state that is subject to earthquakes and only several minor shocks have occurred in the state. Only one earthquake has caused damage in Florida, according to the USGS.
While quakes off the Central Florida coast are rare, USGS data shows a similarly weak earthquake registered in the same area last month.
The west coast has been experiencing unusually high activity and many experts say the next “big one” is imminent. Yellowstone has also shown higher than normal activity sparking fears of a mega volcano blowing its top. and now the east coast is feeling it as well. Could the “big one” truly be that close? Only time will tell. What do you think?
