Imagine how they felt watching the transformation…

The family of Micah Xavier Johnson, the Dallas gunman who brutally shot and killed 5 policeman last week, have now spoken out about the nightmarish events.

Apparently heartbroken over their son’s actions, his father, mother and stepmother said they never saw any outward signs of his hatred towards white people. In fact, Johnson’s own stepmother is white.

Described as a “hermit,” his mother Delphine Johnson revealed Johnson was not always that way. “He loved his country. He wanted to protect his country,” she explained, saying Johnson was a fun-loving child who even had dreams of becoming a police officer.

Although unable to identity a specific incident that set him off, it was after Johnson’s return from a tour in Afghanistan as an Army reservist that his family saw a noticeable change. Johnson’s mother told reporters his experience in the Army did not live up to his expectations. He was disappointed in what the military represented, which presumably could have led him further into seclusion.

When his service was over, Johnson took to studying radical Afrocentrism. Beginning as a study into black history, he began to spiral into extremism, with interest in the New Black Panther Party and the African American Defense League. Now deleted Facebook photos showed him giving the “black power” fist and representing the Pan-African flag.

Johnson’s mother did acknowledge her son’s hatred of “injustice”  — especially what he perceived to be as injustice in the way African-Americans are treated. Nonetheless, his entire family was shocked when they heard of their son’s horrific actions.

In an interview with TheBlaze, Johnson’s father teared up on camera, saying, “I don’t know what to say to anybody to make anything better. I didn’t see it coming. I love my son with all my heart. I hate what he did.”

It is obvious that Micah Johnson was not raised to do things like this. Our prayers are with his family.
