Carmelo Anthony took the opportunity after winning the gold to spread an encouraging message to Americans everywhere. Anthony called for all Americans to stand united and get past all of the infighting going on. I think we can all stand behind that message.
After the U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team took its third-straight gold medal Sunday, easily besting Serbia 96-66, NBA star Carmelo Anthony offered impassioned words about America in the midst of its numerous troubles and what the victory meant to him.
“In spite of everything that’s going on right now in our country, we gotta be united,” Anthony said during an interview, his voice breaking. “I’m glad I did what I did, I stepped up to the challenge. This is what it’s about, representing our country on the biggest stage that you can be on. America will be great again, I believe that. We got a lot of work to do, but it’s one step at a time and I’m glad we represented in the fashion that we did.”
