Ryan Locate stands to lose a whopping $1 million in endorsement deals alone following his shenanigans in Rio.
As of Tuesday, all four of the Olympic swimmer’s major sponsors have decided to cut ties with the 32-year-old.
Speedo, Lochte’s biggest sponsor, released the following statement:
“While we have enjoyed a winning relationship with Ryan for over a decade and he has been an important member of the Speedo team, we cannot condone behavior that is counter to the values this brand has long stood for. We appreciate his many achievements and hope he moves forward and learns from this experience.”
Lochte inked a 10-year deal with Speedo in 2006. He thanked the company for “the opportunities that our partnership has afforded me over the years.”
Ralph Lauren and Gentle Hair Removal also pulled their endorsements.
Japanese mattress manufacturer Airweave initially pledged to stand behind Lochte, but announced yesterday “after careful consideration” that it would drop him as well.
At the age of 32, with younger and more promising Olympians emerging each 4-year cycle of the Games, Ryan Lochte’s career is unlikely to recover.
