‘Stranger Things’ Actor: “If You Hate Somebody, Just Punch Him In The Face”

Hollywood gave itself some more awards last night because if there is anything America needs, it’s another awards show. And as Scott Greer reports, one of the “winners” used his acceptance speech to send out an open call for political violence:

Attendees at Sunday night’s Screen Actors Guild Awards gave an uproarious standing ovation to “Stranger Things” star David Harbour’s call to punch unnamed people who oppress “the weak and the disenfranchised…”

“We will hunt monsters and when we are at a loss amidst the hypocrisy and the casual violence of certain individuals and institutions, we will, as per Chief Jim Hopper [Harbour’s character on the show], punch some people in the face when they seek to destroy the weak and the disenfranchised and the marginalized.”

And everybody stood and cheered.

This sounds familiar to me because I saw Harbour tweet the same thing last week:

He’s talking about Richard Spencer. I don’t like Spencer either, but my personal disgust and disdain is not a license to commit unprovoked violence on anybody. Yeah, yeah, I know, Indy punched Nazis… who were trying to kill him. He also shot Muslims who were trying to kill him. He was defending himself. Sucker-punching nerds in the street for saying stupid things is not that.
