36-year-old Cynthia Skipper of Adams County, was put behind bars after officials said she shot her own daughter for being disrespectful. She was charged with attempted murder and her bail was set at $500,000.
Police were called to the home on Lower Woodville Road, at around 10:00 p.m., on a report of a shooting where they found Skipper’s 12-year-old daughter, suffering from a gunshot wound. The child was airlifted to a hospital in Jackson, where she is said to be in stable condition.
Investigations say that alcohol may have played a role in the incident. Skipper and her daughter had an argument and when she felt that the girl was being disrespectful, the mother grabbed a gun and shot her daughter. The 12 year old was sitting in a reclining chair when her mother shot in her direction. The bullet went through the back of the chair before hitting the girl on the shoulder. Skipper’s children, who are under 9 years old, were in the home at the time of the shooting but none aside from the 12yr old was hurt during the incident.
The children were placed with family members and the 12-year-old girl will also be placed somewhere safe when she is released from the hospital.
