A walker was winched to safety in a dramatic rescue mission by the coastguard helicopter after she fell from a cliff in Cornwall. The woman was walking in Penzance with her husband when she slipped from the path and plummeted onto the grassy verge below, injury her neck and leg.
The Penzance and Land’s End coastguard teams then carried out a difficult rescue to bring the woman to safety. Footage shows the helicopter arriving at the scene, before one of the team is winched below to the woman. She was then flown to hospital.
A coastguard spokesman told Cornwall Live that the woman had a possible leg and neck injury, as well as dizziness.
‘Conditions at the time were foggy, with light rain which reduced the option of an air asset to assist,’ they said. ‘With this in mind and the probability of a stretcher carry from the cliff path, additional assistance was requested.’
The rescue operation, which was filmed by a member of the Penzance Coastguard cliff and rescue team, happened shortly before 2pm on Saturday, March 11.
The spokesman said the woman’s husband had sent a picture of their location to the team.
Two paramedics, having arrived at the nearby farm along with additional coastguards, were also taken to the the site overland to assist in the rescue.
