A distressing film has been released to warn parents and children of the dangers of online grooming. This film shows how a school girl was groomed over Facebook that was then raped and murdered.
Kayleigh Haywood, 15, is a victim of online grooming. The young girl was reportedly talking to a man named Luke Harlow, 27, who had contacted her through Facebook. Martin Haywood, Kayleigh’s father, was the last person to see her alive 2 weeks before the tragedy. He dropped her off outside her school – believing she was gonna stay at a friend’s place after.
Harlow had influenced her to lie to her parents and stay the night at his home on November 13, 2015 where Stephen Beadman, 28, intoxicated her with alcohol and sexually assaulted her.
Katie Simpson, Kayleigh’s friend, received a message that said “Help” hours before the 15 year old’s tragic death. Harlow’s neighbours reportedly heard loud bangs and screams from the property as well.
It was then later found out that Kayleigh made a desperate attempt to escape her captor’s flat barefoot and without clothes on her lower half. She was followed by Beadman who then battered the 15 year old to death and left her body in undergrowth where it lay undiscovered for days.
The 5 minute clip has already been screened at different schools across Leicestershire and Ruthland and has been made available to public via Youtube and Facebook.
“Every child and young person needs to learn from Kayleigh’s story to prevent this tragedy from ever happening again.” said Javed Khan, Barnardo’s Chief Executive
