A 2-year-old boy has died after being left in a jacuzzi bathtub and the child’s mother is in police custody. Michigan police said the family called 911 after finding the boy burned to his skin, he was allegedly left in a scalding hot water. The boy’s mother was at home at that time of the incident, along with three other children and a neighbor.

According to Inkster police Lt. Jeff Twardzik in a statement, “The child was (submerged) in a bathtub, a jacuzzi bathtub upstairs. About three or four inches of water,”

Police said the boy had burns to 50 percent of his body and was found faced down the bath tub. It is also reported that child protective services is involved with this family. Reports say that the family’s four children, including the 2-year-old boy, were removed from the home at some point this year. They were “recently” returned to the parents.

“There have been some issues in the past with CPS where the children have been placed on basis where there was an investigation and they’d been put back in the home recently,”, Twardzik said.

After performing CPR, emergency personnel rushed the 2yo to a hospital, where he was initially listed in critical condition. But he later died to his injuries overnight.

Mark Patterson, who identified himself as a neighbor, told that the mother tried to save her son’s life.

“She was frantic and she was hurt as anybody would be. It was a tragic accident,” he said. “She was a single mother and she was doing the best she could. … This is just a tragic situation.”
