A man from Florida was involved in a standoff with police Thursday. He allegedly pulled a gun on relatives in an apparent misunderstand over cooking hot dogs, according to a police report.
Authorities were called to a reported domestic assault when Lamar Brooks, 24, pulled a gun and made threats. A woman and a young girl were able to fortunately escape the house where Brooks was in.
When responding officers arrived, they were told that Brooks was closed up inside the home. The woman told authorities that she and Brooks were having a fight Thursday morning when he grabbed a gun while saying, “I can cook whatever I want.”
A Crisis Negotiator Team responded to the scene and was able to make contact with Brooks by phone. The 24 year old reportedly told officers he was still in the home and did not want to come out but they later learnt that he had managed to get out of the home when an anonymous source tipped up the authorities that Brooks was seen standing in front of an apartment building just a few blocks away from the scene.
He was seen climbing out of a parked car when police deployed the drone and made the arrest. Brooks was charged of false imprisonment, aggravated assault with a firearm and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
He then allegedly told officers that the fight started because he was hungry and wanted to boil some dogs. He was ordered to cook them in the microwave instead but he ignored the request and continued to prepare the hot dogs on the stove top, in which after hee claimed that the woman grabbed the pot and threw it on the floor but police officers say the pot was still on the stove when they entered the home.
He has remained in custody at the Palm Beach County Jail with a $50,000 bail.
