Routine Drive Takes A Tragic Turn For Uber Driver


Jose Humberto Felix Mendez, 28, was fatally shot while driving three U.S. citizens from a nightclub to their rented apartment.

According to investigations, a black sedan pulled up next to the Uber car, a Nissan March, and shot the driver multiple times at around 11:35 p.m while they were driving southbound on Federal Highway 1. The passengers tried to keep their driver alive but he unfortunately died on the scene before police arrived.

The three passengers, two males and one female,  were on their way to a residence at Club Marena from the nightclub Papas and Beer, which is a popular place for San Diego college students to celebrate spring break. The venue was apparently having a sold-out open bar event.

A spokesman for the Rosarito Police Department said none of the passengers were injured, “The attack was directly against the chauffeur, not against any of the passengers”



Since Uber started operating in Mexico in 2013, Uber drivers have continuously been involved in confrontations with regular taxi drivers who not very happy about the competition.

Investigations are still on going whether what the shootout was for.
