Les Wilson wacked his girlfriend over the head with a walking stick after she refused to have sex with him has been jailed for six months. He was drunk at the time he assaulted his partner in their Northern Territory home, a court heard.
On Friday, Wilson fronted Darwin Local Court where he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, according to NT News.
According to the report, Wilson’s girlfriend was asleep in their home when he came home drunk and demanded sex.
When she denied his request, she was then hit over the head with a walking stick.
Judge Greg Cavanagh said that violence against women was too common and something that needed to be dealt with accordingly.
“(Men assaulting women) is a widespread offending and we must step back to ensure we don’t become desensitized to the level of violence that comes through this court,” he added.
Wilson was convicted and was jailed for six months, suspended after he has served three months.
