Groom and Bride Kicked Off United Airlines Flight For Sitting In Empty Seats

A Soon-to-wed Couple was forced to leave from a United Airlines Flight because they seat without permission.

Just recently after the United Airlines incident that was reported a passenger being violently dragged off the plane because of overbooking, another incident of eviction occurred on Saturday. A soon-to-be-married couple who were on their way to their wedding were expelled out of the plane.

The incident took place on United Airlines Flight 1737 which was headed from Houston (IAH) to Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR).

According to the report, Michael Hohl and his fiancé, Amber Maxwell, were coming from Salt Lake City and had a layover at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston. The couple were the last to board the plane, but when they reached their seats (24 B and C), they claim to have found a man napping across the entire row. Rather than wake the man, Hohl says that he and Amber decided to grab two seats in row 21 instead, as the flight was nowhere near full and multiple rows on the plane were completely empty.

“We thought not a big deal, it’s not like we are trying to jump up into a first-class seat,” Hohl said. “We were simply in an economy row a few rows above our economy seat.”

After sitting, Hohl said a flight attendant approached and asked if they were in their ticketed seats. The couple explained they weren’t and asked if they could get an upgrade, but instead they were told they needed to return to their assigned seats.

The soon to be married couple was shocked, but complied with the order. Hohl vowed never to fly United, and slammed the poor customer service of the airline.

“They said that we were being disorderly and a hazard to the rest of the flight, to the safety of the other customers,” said Hohl.  He called the situation “quite strange.”

United disagrees with this assessment, and provided the following statement:

We’re disappointed anytime a customer has an experience that doesn’t measure up to their expectations. These passengers repeatedly attempted to sit in upgraded seating which they did not purchase and they would not follow crew instructions to return to their assigned seats. We’ve been in touch with them and have rebooked them on flights tomorrow.

It is hard to identify which version of the story is closer to the truth, but because of such an outrageous incident happened last week; even relatively small incidents like these don’t look good for United.

Despite of what happened, the couple were rebooked for a Sunday morning flight and offered them a discounted hotel room for the night, according United Airlines spokeswoman.
