DNA Confirms Hunter Was ‘Killed And Eaten’ By Crocodiles

Scott Van Zyl, 44, was horribly killed and eaten by wild crocodiles – investigators said after confirming the DNA tests on human remains found inside the beast.

The father-of-two, is a professional hunter from South Africa who was reportedly went missing and was hilariously killed during a hunt in Zimbabwe safari on the banks of the Limpopo river last week.

According to Sakkie Louwrens, director of a South-African crime-fighting NGO, Van Zyl accompanied clients on hunting trips together with a local tracker and a pack of dogs as they set off on the hunt along the border.  After leaving their vehicle, they headed in different directions in search of crocodiles.

The team then wondered Van Zyl’s whereabouts when his dogs returned to the camp without him, and a search-and-rescue operation was immediately launched by Heritage Protection Group and Zimbabwean authorities in response to the hunter’s unexpected disappearance, where they were able to track the hunter’s footprints to a riverbank alongside his discarded rucksack. Also, Van Zyl’s friends gave out missing posters in villages and to fishermen along the river.

Mr. Louwrens said that the permission was given to the search team for the three Nile crocodiles in the area to be shot, and one of them contained Mr Van Zyl’s remains.

He told The Telegraph, ‘We found what could possibly be human remains in them.’

In BBC News, Mr. Louwrens has confirmed that subsequent DNA tests have proved the remains to be those of Mr Van Zyl.

The Telegraph reported that at least four people have been killed by crocodiles in Zimbabwe in the past month after heavy rains caused the reptiles to move away from rivers – and one of the latest victims is an 11-year-old boy, Mphathi Ndlovu, who was killed by a crocodile while he was swimming in the Kana River with two friends.
