President Donald Trump got hammered on Wednesday but a group that generally supports him.
The cast of Fox News’ “The Five.”
In a speech to the rank and file at Al Asad Airbase the president said he does not plan to withdrawal troops from Iraq and could use the site as the home base for future operations in the region.
‘If we see something happening with ISIS that we don’t like, we can hit them so fast and so hard they really won’t know what the hell happened,’ the president said. ‘We’ve knocked them silly.’
The base is a roughly 185 kilometers outside of Syria, where the president last week initiated a withdrawal of U.S. troops.
‘It’s time for us to start using our head. We don’t want to be taken advantage of anymore,’ Trump said of the topic on Wednesday from Iraq.
The hosts of “The Five” were angry that the president did not mention that last week when he said he was withdrawing troops from Syria.
“Wouldn’t this have been an excellent time for him to announce his changes in Syria, after having visited Iraq?” Tom Shillue said.
“Especially if he was going to say he has no plans to withdraw troops from Iraq, because those troops can be staged to deal with ISIS,” Dana Perino said. “Then you might not have had ten days of confusion.”
“When he made the announcement to take the troops out, the reason there was confusion is because there wasn’t this explanation that he gave today,” Katie Pavlich agreed. “It would have been helpful at the beginning if he had said, ‘Look, we’re getting out of Syria because we have plenty of resources in Iraq to deal with the ISIS problem. We’re going to continue to fight ISIS despite taking away their territory, of course that war with the terrorist group is not done because they do exist in places like Europe and the United States.’”
“It was rocky. It seemed like the president was more concerned… with reassuring Americans that he was trying to keep a campaign promise instead of actually telling us what he planned on doing,” Lawrence Jones continued.
