President Donald Trump is twisting the screws on Democrats after grounding House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s trip to Brussels, Afghanistan and Egypt.
Team Trump continued to play hardball with Congressional Democrats Friday, with the White House issuing a new rule that would require lawmakers to get the administration’s written permission to travel on government aircraft.
“Under no circumstances during a government shutdown, will any government owned, rented, leased or chartered support any Congressional delegation, without the express written approval of the White House Chief of Staff,” wrote Russell Vought, acting director of the Office of Management and Budget, referring to Mick Mulvaney.
The letter also says no federal funds can be used for such travel without Mulvaney’s permission.
It was Thursday when President Trump cancelled Pelosi’s trip right before she boarded her bus to get to the plane.
President Trump just responded to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s cancellation of the SOTU in epic fashion.
And honestly, it’s perhaps the most brilliant move I’ve seen from the President in all this time.
From Fox News:
President Trump on Thursday appeared to deny military aircraft to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for an upcoming foreign trip, in response to her call to delay the State of the Union address amid the government shutdown.
In a stinging and curt letter, Trump said her trip has been “postponed.” …
Trump’s official statement:
“Due to the Shutdown, I am sorry to inform you that your trip to Brussels, Egypt, and Afghanistan has been postponed. We will reschedule this seven-day excursion when the Shutdown is over. In light of the 800,000 great American workers not receiving pay, I am sure you would agree that postponing this public relations event is totally appropriate. I also feel that, during this period, it would be better if you were in Washington negotiating with me and joining the Strong Border Security movement to end the Shutdown. Obviously, if you would like to make your journey by flying commercial, that would certainly be your prerogative.”
