Media has had to do a lot of backtracking on the Covington Catholic story after jumping the gun in the zeal to pin a juicy story on kids in MAGA hats.

Turns out there may be one more thing that they failed to check out – Nathan Phillip’s claim to be a “Vietnam veteran.”

Numerous media outlets spread the claim that Phillips was a Vietnam veteran.

And the Washington Post, who originally ran the story of the viral incident has just updated their story which claimed he served in Vietnam.

From National Review:

“Earlier versions of this story incorrectly said that Native American activist Nathan Phillips fought in the Vietnam War. Phillips served in the U.S. Marines from 1972 to 1976 but was never deployed to Vietnam,” reads the correction to the Sunday report titled, “‘It was getting ugly’: Native American drummer speaks on his encounter with MAGA-hat-wearing teens.”

CNN actually has an interview with Mr. Phillips where he claims to be a Vietnam veteran in two different places in the the story.
