Five years ago two best friends made a pact. Kevin Elliot and Barry Delaney have been best friends their entire life. When Elliot joined the Army a few years ago, to ease the fear he was experiencing, his best bud decided to make a pact with him.
He told his best friend that if he died during combat he would wear a bright dress with bright socks. Not ever believing it would actually come true.
Unfortunately, it did. Elliot was killed in combat and his friend knew he had to fulfill his end of the deal.
He received a lot of awkward stares, but nobody questioned him. They knew this was something he had to do.

Delaney was 25 then, and Elliot was 24. He thought back to how terrified his friend was before he left. Private Elloitt, a Black Watch infantryman, believed he would never return from Afghanistan.
The dress pact was Elloit’s idea, conceived after it had been announced that his unit was going to Afghanistan. The friends joked about his funeral and decided the dress should be as bright as possible. Pink with green spots was the winning combination.
Delaney did his best to pull himself together. But as he bent down to ask his best friend if he liked his dress, he broke down, realizing his best friend would never answer.
