Customers’ stomachs have long been known to churn at Taco Bell, but the food chain’s latest revelation may trigger nausea, Taco Bell’s latest strategy to promote its breakfast business involves drag queens.
This week, Taco Bell announced its “Drag Brunch Tour,” a drag show featuring drag kings and queens that will take place at five of its “Cantina” locations across the country starting on May 1 through June 26.
According to the press release, Taco Bell Drag Brunch was the idea of Live Más Pride, the company’s resource group for LGBTQIA+ employees, The group was started in 2020 and is made up of more than 100 members whose goal is to create opportunities that elevate the voices, stories, and experiences of its community.
“We understand the importance of creating safe spaces for the LGBTQIA+ community and are thrilled to provide a unique experience that spotlights and celebrates the wonderful artform of drag and its influence in culture with their chosen families,” TB Global Chief Brand Officer Sean Tresvant said.
Each show will be hosted by drag performer Kay Sedia and feature appearances from local drag talent. Store locations will be outfitted in special visual backdrops and serve a menu with offerings like a new $5 Bell Breakfast Box, Cinnabon Delights Coffee, and mimosas.
While it is true that no child deserves to feel depressed or suicidal, they also should not be told this behavior is normal. Men dressing up as women is not normal or appropriate for anyone to celebrate, especially not children, the wnd reports.
As drag performance and culture becomes more mainstream, it’s gaining wider especially now that even the fast-food chain promoted it and younger audiences could lead to craft their own drag personas and take their place on stage, although the Drag Brunch Tour is for people 18 and over but still leads to self-consciousness and curiosity.
Here’s what Washington times reported:
Taco Bell follows several big U.S. corporations such as The Walt Disney Co. that have recently promoted LGBT and transgender rights. It remains to be seen, however, whether the “woke” initiatives will appeal to consumers.
“Conservative populism is on the rise around the globe, so adopting left-leaning views or policies is risky for business,” Allen Mendenhall, associate dean of the business school at Troy University in Alabama, told The Washington Times in an email.
The Drag Brunch will then move to Chicago on May 22, Nashville on May 29, New York on June 12, and Fort Lauderdale on June 26. In addition to Taco Bell breakfast, the event will feature mimosas.
