George Soros, the billionaire philanthropist, and Democratic donor are putting money behind a political group. Soros has thrown more than $100,000 behind a candidate for prosecuting attorney in Little Rock, Arkansas.
According to financial documents, the Arkansas Justice and Public Safety PAC were founded in late April, with Soros as its sole donor.
More than $106,000 of Soros’ $321,000 donation to the organization has gone to promote Alicia Walton, a former public defender competing for the vacated prosecuting attorney seat in the Sixth Judicial District. The district encompasses Perry and Pulaski Counties, as well as Little Rock, the state capital.
Walton had raised less than $20,000 and the financing was a much-needed boost. Will Jones, her opponent, has raised roughly $144,000.
The money spent thus far by Arkansas Justice and Public Safety PAC on Walton’s behalf has gone to research, polling, and consulting. According to the Arkansas Times, around $40,000 went toward broadcasting advertising on seven Little Rock radio stations.
Arkansas Republicans have pounced on the news of Soros’ involvement in the prosecuting attorney’s race.

The Arkansas Justice and Public Safety PAC is led by Whitney Tymas, who is also listed as the director or treasurer for similarly named Soros-funded groups that support liberal prosecutors in at least 12 other states.
“What we’re really doing is leveling the playing field,” Tymas told the New York Times in 2019, noting that district attorney races often have low voter engagement.
Soros has contributed more than $29 million in support of over 20 liberal district attorneys since 2016, according to the Capital Research Center.
Many of the prosecutors who won their elections thanks in part to contributions by Soros have presided over significant crime waves in their cities after assuming office.
President Joe Biden and Democratic mayors in blue cities across the country have signaled in recent months a reversal from the “defund the police” mantra championed by liberal politicians in 2020.
