It’s never easy to lose a close friend. Whether we are “prepared” for it or not is immaterial. Grief is not just something that happens to people. Sadness can be felt by animals as well.
For instance, did you know that some of the most emotional and intelligent animals on the earth are parrots? They experience intense sadness when they lose someone they love.
And recently, this African gray parrot Sinbad had to go through this.
Sinbad has been his owner’s devoted companion for 25 years. Unfortunately, the owner had to say farewell as she was dying. The woman offers her dear friend her final words in a video that has now gone viral.
Like many animals, Sinbad and his owner had a close relationship.
Sinbad is usually a very cheerful and cheery bird, but while his owner lay dying, he seemed to realize the gravity of the situation and he was fairly somber.
This was interpreted as evidence of the extraordinary empathy birds have for their owners.
As shown in the video, Sinbad rests on the arm of his owner, who is lying on her hospital bed and appears to be running out of time.
Assumed to be the woman’s daughter, the woman behind the camera softly informs her mother that Sinbad is with her.
The parrot moves slowly toward his owner’s chest.
The woman tries to speak to her mother in the distance and inquires about her desire to say farewell to her cherished pet.
I’m taking a picture of you and Sinbad,” the woman murmurs, “Sinbad’s so sad.”
The daughter begs her mother to speak to Sinbad while fighting back tears.
A few seconds later, the old woman cries out to her pet parrot, “I love you.”
Sinbad looked up at his owner with mournful eyes, perhaps sensing that she was attempting to say farewell.
Parrots, especially the African grays, are famous for being intelligent animals. They have a 50-year life span and when a loved one passes away, parrots might become depressed in a similar way to how people do. Even birds can take antidepressants.
Sinbad expresses to his owner how much she matters to him by simply staying by her side. She expresses her affection for him to him as well when he is lying on her belly.
