A video showing three customers trashing a New York City restaurant and attacking workers in a dispute over a $1.75 fee for extra sauce has gone viral on the internet.
The incident took place around 4 am on Saturday, Pearl Ozoria, 27, of Manhattan, Chitara Plasencia, 25, and Tatiyanna Johnson, 23, of Brooklyn, engaged in a heated argument with staff members at a Ludlow Street Bel Fries in Manhattan’s Lower East Side after being informed that extra sauce would cost an additional $2.
An employee who recorded the incident warned the women, “You’re gonna go to jail,” as they started to cause damage that ultimately cost between $10,000 and $20,000. The two workers, a 33-year-old male, and a 33-year-old female suffered head lacerations as a result of their rant, which caused the business to be shut down.
The three individuals removed approximately $10 from the cash register before unleashing a tirade on the employees, according to a statement from the NYPD.
TikTok user “ruthcortes77” posted an employee’s footage of the trio throwing a metal stool, glass bottles, and anything in arm’s reach at the restaurant employees.
The women destroyed the plastic partition, jumped over the counter, and continued to throw objects from a closer range while the employees backed up to maintain distance.
According to Newsweek, the New York Police Department has arrested the assailants and charged them with criminal possession of a weapon. One of the suspects also received charges of assault and resisting arrest after she punched an officer in the face.
New York Post also reported that it is still unknown if Ozoria, who is the woman in blue, white, or black, punched a police officer in the face when they got on the scene. She was accused of assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, impeding official business, and having disorderly behavior. She is currently being held under a $5,000 bond and residing at the Rose M Singer Center in East Elmhurst. On Friday, July 8, she is anticipated to show up in court. According to New York Post, each of the three ladies is additionally charged with robbery and criminal mischief.
Bel Fries owner Annalee Shlossberg said two employees were hit in the head with glass bottles. She added that her focus is on ensuring her workers are safe.
“My number one priority is making sure all of my employees are not only physically okay, but mentally okay. I know they’re suffering from traumatic shock from the event,” she said.
The owner has also hired a security guard to prevent similar incidents from happening.
This is just another example of the entitled behavior that we’re seeing more and more often from people these days. It’s absolutely unacceptable to fly into a rage and start trashing a place just because you don’t get your way or need to pay a few bucks extra to get something you want to have. This kind of behavior needs to be stopped before it gets out of hand. And Americans are getting out of hand like this far too often these days.
