AOC has lost her “street cred,” as if she had any real “cred” to begin with. See, AOC is a marketing gimmick, much like Obama and his “hope and change” bullsh*t, she’s not real.
She’s a puppet being used by the real people in charge to create buzz and bring people into the fold. She’s there to make progressives really feel like they have a voice. But, when things get too far out of hand, AOC is reeled back in, and put on the establishment’s payroll, and she happily settles into her new role, knowing she will be blessed in the future with a wonderful political career, insider stock trading tips, and she can still pretend to be a rebel when she needs to rally the troops, fundraise, or get re-elected.
Sweet deal right? Most on the left have fallen for this game, hook, line, and sinker, but some are hip to what’s happening and realize that AOC is all talk and gimmicks, and is in it for herself. In all fairness, this happens on the right too. Look at people like Lindsey Graham, and Trey Gowdy… two establishment stooges, who pretend to be righteous fighters.
This is how politics works everywhere. It’s sickening.
Now, people are seeing just how phony she truly is.
With AOC, the Democrats can blatantly overlook the failure of their anti-poverty programs and cut millions from unemployment insurance. Sadly, personality is more powerful than policy.
The icing on the cake: AOC voted “present” on a bill providing funding to Israel’s Iron Dome. Then, she cried. In a moment where she could’ve protested America’s unnecessary involvement in foreign affairs, she decided to be complicit.
AOC is a tool to secure genuine left-wing support to uphold the weak Biden coalition. She is all smoke and mirrors. Instead of sheepishly idolizing our politicians, we should examine them for what they are. AOC is not our saving grace. She is a cog in the political machine she claims to fight against.
We want politicians who create change, not ones who cry at the opportunity to act.
And anti-war protesters on the left, are furious with AOC’s rubber stamp approval of the establishment WW3 war and possible nuclear confrontation.
This bit from WSWS really sums up how the anti-war left feels about this: On May 10, every single Democratic socialist of America (DSA)-a backed member of Congress voted to approve Joe Biden’s request for $40 billion in the military and financial aid for Ukraine.
Bernie Sanders, who once published a recording of himself reading Debs’ Canton speech, voted “yes” for war credits and said, “We should always have a debate, but the problem is that Ukraine is in the middle of a very intense war right now. I think every day counts, and I think we have to respond as strongly and vigorously as we can.”
Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, who knows nothing about the history of socialism, voted “yes” too. Hoping that people either would not notice or would quickly forget her vote, she refused to issue as much as a press release or tweet explaining her vote. The other DSA members of congress, Rashida Tlaib, Cori Bush, and Jamaal Bowman, all voted “yes” as well.
The vote marks a crossing of a political Rubicon. It is an endorsement of the US/NATO war against Russia. It takes money out of the hands of working people confronting inflation and poverty at home and directs it toward death and destruction abroad. It dramatically increases the possibility of a world war between nuclear powers.
Well, everything finally came to a head during an event AOC was speaking at. When it was Q&A time, the fur started to fly, and young anti-war protesters confronted her, calling her a warmonger, and a sell-out.
AOC was left speechless, and it was a glorious thing to see.
