You’re probably already familiar with how people in your part of the world prefer to split the bill. Split checks are the divisions of bills into multiple options, which can be between customers or payment methods.
Splitting the bill is common practice for some; however, splitting the bill can also turn into an awkward ordeal.
Some people might throw down their credit cards, while all others have is cash, and then it might turn out that the restaurants won’t even offer separate checks. The same thing goes for a restaurant at Louisiana Bistreaux Seafood Kitchen in East Point, Georgia.
When a group of 25 people celebrated a woman’s 30th birthday, and just when the bill of over $2200 surfaced, it sparked a misunderstanding. The situation got quite intense that it resulted in calling in the cops. TikTok clips uploaded by a woman identified as Key showed the group celebrating her sister named Quandresha Brinkley at the seafood restaurant.
Key who uploaded the series of videos in TikTok said that they went to the Louisiana Bistreaux Seafood Kitchen in East Point on March 10, 2021, according to the Daily Mail. Key explained that she and 24 others were invited to celebrate her sister, Quandresha Brinkley’s 30th birthday, and Brinkley made agreements with staff regarding how the payment would be collected and that individual people would need to be able to make their own payments. And then she says the restaurant called the police for some reason and shows at least three officers coming into the restaurant before the staff even brought out the bill.
Police can be seen lingering nearby in video footage of the incident while the restaurant manager attempts to resolve the issue.
The restaurant employees wouldn’t split the cost, and the manager who dealt with Brinkley stated they would only be able to deduct drinks off the tab. Brinkley added that her older party members had to trek to a nearby hotel to use an ATM because they lacked the cash app necessary to transfer the payments.
Brinkley was informed by the restaurant manager, according to Key, “She said to have less credit cards but make sure people have cash.”
Key shows images of the receipts that total $2,204.30 in the video.
As the manager tries to explain her inability to divide the check into smaller groups, one police officer can be heard laughing in the background.
Key also claims that the restaurant was reluctant from the get-go to accommodate the large group, saying that the hungry diners were waiting nearly two hours for their food.
“Most people were complaining. Nobody had food,” she said.
Additionally, other guests were forced to chip in more since other people left the restaurant due to the situation.
“The bill did get paid,” Key said. “Her [Brinkley’s] friends brought other friends, and they were the ones that ran. My sister paid money out of her pocket. She did make a reservation, and she did talk about splitting the bill beforehand.”
However, more people came to the party than were originally scheduled to come, Key explained that the guests had to speak to the staff several times to make sure the check accurately reflected the items that they had purchased because the latecomers were seated at a different part of the restaurant and paid for their food on a separate bill but the servers brought out “two or three plates” that did not belong to anyone at the birthday party.
Key said, “A lot of people felt like they were getting ripped off.”
Key said the police were called before the staff brought out the bill and the officers even encouraged her to post the videos on social media, She said, “He said, ‘Go on social media about it and tell them about the restaurant. Go to social media about how they treated y’all.”
