A four-year-old girl slipped out of her house at 3 am and hopped on a bus in a quest to find a snack. She even walked 5 blocks in the rain to the bus stop!
It all began around 3 a.m. Friday on Torresdale Avenue near Cottman in the Tacony neighborhood. Little Annabelle slipped out the backdoor of the family’s Tacony home, wearing a purple raincoat.
Though it was raining, the little girl was prepared. She wore her purple raincoat, and white snow boots and went up into the SEPTA Route 56 bus while telling other passengers that all she wanted was a slushie.
A CCTV surveillance video caught Annabelle Ridgeway, the 4-Year-old girl Slushie fan walking along Torresdale Avenue and being helped by a -concerned passenger to get up in the bus. She was actually searching for a 7-11 convenience store. The little girl had walked five blocks from her home.
Harlan Jenifer, the bus driver, couldn’t believe his eyes when he watched the tiny child in a purple raincoat and pajamas board his bus.
SEPTA surveillance video shows little Annabelle stepping onto the bus wearing a purple coat and snow boots.
“Got to be kidding me! At this time, at 3 o’clock on the morning,” said Jenifer said. “She’s a small little thing. It kind of just shocked me.”
He immediately called the police while bus passengers comforted the child, who let them know what her early morning mission was.
“All I want is a slushie, that’s all she said!” little Annabelle said.
Caught on surveillance, the girl seemed quite comfortable as she walked around the warm bus, swinging her tiny legs after she sat.
“It was too funny,” Jenifer later said at SEPTA headquarters. “I was scared for her, but it was funny. She was in good hands.”
According to police, no charges were filed against the family, who were unaware of the girl’s night activities. Officers who inspected the home found nothing unusual.
Annabelle’s parents thanked all the people on the bus who comforted their daughter during her late-night mission.
During an interview with the family, the 4-year-old was still antsy to satisfy her sweet tooth. “Mommy, will you take me to Wawa and buy a slushie?” she asked her mother. “I will take you to Wawa and buy a slushie,” her mom responded. “But listen, promise me next time you’ll wait for me OK?”
