Former President Donald Trump’s indictment on Thursday was dubbed “un-American” by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who also claimed that the legal system has been militarized.
DeSantis stated on Twitter that “the weaponization of the judicial system to further a political objective flips the rule of law on its head.” It is not American.
When a Manhattan grand jury decided to indict Trump for his alleged involvement in a 2016 payment to Stormy Daniels, he became the first former president to face criminal charges.
DeSantis referred to Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan attorney general leading the case against Trump, as “Soros-backed,” and questioned his handling of other criminal cases.

The Florida governor claimed that “the Soros-backed Manhattan District Attorney has regularly bent the law to lower offenses and to justify criminal behavior.” “Yet, he is now abusing the legal system to target a political rival.”
The tweet added, “Given the suspicious conditions at issue with this Soros-backed Manhattan prosecutor and his political agenda, Florida will not help in an extradition request.
Legal experts have dismissed the case as legally meaningless, and Trump’s new personal lawyer Joe Tacopina has claimed that the payment Trump made to his former attorney Michael Cohen was in fact a proper legal fee.
The weaponization of the legal system to advance a political agenda turns the rule of law on its head.
