In a remarkable tale of transformation, Detroit couple Kyle Dubay and Bo Shepherd have demonstrated their ability to turn discarded relics into valuable assets. The duo took a dilapidated house worth mere thousands and transformed it into a breathtaking property that sold for over $410,000.
Owners of a furniture restoration business, 34-year-old Kyle and 32-year-old Bo, stumbled upon this gem of a fixer-upper in 2019 through a client.
As Kyle shared with the Daily Mail, their client initially intended to buy the house and demolish it. He wanted Kyle and Bo to assess which materials could be salvaged and repurposed. However, upon touring the house with him, the couple fell in love with its potential. Despite its terrible state, they believed it had a solid foundation.
Seeing their passion for the house, the client agreed to let them purchase and renovate it. Consequently, they bought the property at an auction held by the Detroit Land Bank Authority.
Though Kyle and Bo are skilled artisans, this project was a considerable undertaking. They had to start from scratch, revamping everything from electrical work and plumbing to roofing and flooring. They decided to incorporate salvaged materials into the renovation.
With this project, the couple aimed to design a modern home that utilized reclaimed materials, just like their furniture creations, but on a grander scale. The transformation of this property was particularly meaningful for Kyle and Bo, as they had admired it for nearly a decade. They now own the house and plan to begin work on it within a month.
