Marly Rivera, an ESPN senior reporter who has covered Major League Baseball for 13 years, learned that lesson the hard way last week when she failed to hold her mouth.
According to the New York Post, Rivera was seeking to interview Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge at Yankee Stadium on April 18 when Ivón Gaete, a freelancer on assignment for Tokyo Broadcasting, attempted to gain the same interview.
Rivera tried to clarify that her interview with Judge had been scheduled in advance, but Gaete ignored her.

Rivera responded by calling Gaete a “f***ing c**t,” which was caught on film.
ESPN dismissed Rivera after the incident, sending the same brief statement to the Post and Fox News.
“She no longer works here,” according to the statement.
According to the Post, Rivera tried to apologize, but Gaete refused.
“I fully accept responsibility for what I said, which I should not have,” Rivera told The Post. “There were extenuating circumstances but that in no way is an excuse for my actions.
“I am a professional with a sterling reputation across baseball,” she added, “and I do believe that I am being singled out by a group of individuals with whom I have a long history of professional disagreements.”
Rivera could have been alluding to John Blundell, MLB’s vice president of communications and Gaete’s spouse.
Rivera had previously worked as a dugout reporter for the Home Run Derby and certain ‘Sunday Night Baseball’ broadcasts, according to the Post. She also worked as an ESPN Radio playoff game analyst and wrote for ESPN’s web publications.

“Bilingual, she brought a different perspective to the telecasts; especially when speaking to Latin players,” the Post said.
The Yankees fell to the Los Angeles Angels by three runs last Tuesday, 5-2, but that is unlikely to be what Rivera remembers most about that game.
“I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak,” Jesus says in Matthew’s gospel.
