To alleviate their anxieties, a university provides pro-LGBT students with cotton candy, coloring pages, and temporary tattoos.
According to a memo from President Stephen Percy, Portland State University would provide the freebies to commemorate transgender students in the face of rising “anti-trans bills in legislatures across the country.”
At least ten jurisdictions now have legislation restricting children’s gender operations, and the majority of those states also restrict cross-sex drugs and puberty blockers.
“Many loud voices have made no secret of their desire to target trans, non-binary, and gender diverse people,” Percy wrote.
The institution promises to create a “safe space for all members of the LGBTQAI+ community,” according to the memo.
“We recognize the toll this campaign, and the media that surrounds it, has on the queer and trans members of our community along with their family and friends,” the university president wrote.

The snacks will be served at the school’s Queer Resource Center during a weeklong “Trans and Gender Expansive Celebration and Community Hour” from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
The Queer Resource Center also hosts a “trans social space” dubbed “T-time” every Friday from 3 to 4 p.m.
The university’s efforts to reassure pro-LGBT students coincided with the visit of Peter Boghossian, a former philosophy professor at Portland State University, to campus to discuss with students whether youngsters can consent to puberty blockers.
Boghossian resigned from the university in 2021 after a decade of teaching there, claiming that the school had made “intellectual exploration impossible.”
Boghossian stated in his resignation letter that Portland State University had “transformed a bastion of free inquiry into a Social Justice factory whose only inputs were race, gender, and victimhood and whose only outputs were grievance and division.”
Boghossian tweeted on Thursday that student activists tried to disturb his talks with other students and that he is “embarrassed” for them.
He also tweeted a meme ridiculing the university for providing students with cotton candy, temporary tattoos, and coloring pages.

The school’s Queer Resource Center also sent a statement warning about “provocateurs” visiting campus and advised students to “ignore and disengage.”
“The intention of provocateurs is not to invite productive dialogue,” the Queer Resource Center’s memo warned. “Their tactic is to provoke students, faculty and staff – record it and turn our community into clickbait material to be consumed by other folks with anti-Trans stances.”
“Legally, we cannot stop them,” the memo added.

People were encouraged to come to the Queer Resource Center to enjoy the sweets and do crafts, according to the memo. In addition, the statement urged individuals to “wear masks as an act of community care when not eating or drinking.”
In one of the video clips from Boghossian’s visit, a man yells at him and urges him to “play in the freeway.”
“The world is better off with you pieces of s*** out of it,” the man says.
Asked to give an argument in favor of gender surgeries for children, the man responds, “No, shut the f*** up. I don’t want to argue with you.”

Last year, around 300,000 American teenagers aged 13 to 17 identified as transgender, a significant increase from previous years.
Gender dysphoria diagnoses in children nearly quadrupled between 2017 and 2021. Gender hormone treatments and procedures have been popular over the same time period, despite parental and medical professionals’ concerns. Young people who previously identified as transgender have also expressed remorse about receiving medical treatment.
