Small cottages are rented out by a Jamaican business owner to tourists on a short-term basis, but she has announced that she will no longer rent to “Black Americans” in the future.
The owner claimed that while she rents to people from all over the world, she has encountered problems with the majority of her Black American customers. They were labeled as “Disrespectful, Entitled, and Unappreciative” by her, and she claimed that this was because they had been spoilt and given too much “free shit” in America.
She complained that they started fights with each other late at night and said they expected the same treatment in Jamaica that they receive in America, “they think that they can come to Jamaica and can get the same free shit here, and they are nasty about it.” She continued making it clear that she is not saying all Black Americans are the same.

The owner, who posts as thebarefootislandlady on Instagram, claimed that many business owners are unhappy as a result of their consumers, but she was not going to let unhappy clients treat her poorly. “No short-term stay, no short-term stay; I’m not sacrificing my happiness and health for anyone. It won’t take place here.
She continued, “I would rather eat salt and bananas and let goats and cows into my house than have you come in and disrespect it. I would not hate my business because of customers. A lot of business people are miserable because of their customers, not this place.”
She ended her statement by saying, “My place is drama-free.”
Nearly 5,000 people liked and commented on her video. She received a lot of feedback from followers who claimed she was stereotyping and needed to be more tolerant, but she also had those who defended her views. Some contend that when you remain on someone’s property, a new level of respect is displayed. She prompted some of those who claimed they would stop following her on Instagram to do so.
She addressed most of the complaints with the same letter, saying that she does not need or desire business from tourists who give her “headaches” and that other hosts have also encountered this problem with guests.

She followed up with a post saying she is receiving harsh criticism but would post her video one hundred more times if she could and is not going to apologize “I’m not sorry.”
She said she has the right to free speech and will not be bullied. She said those complaining are the clientele she hopes to weed out, “My peace is more important than your frickin’ opinion.”
