Free advice for 2023: Before giving your computer gadgets to Goodwill, remove all of your personal information, including sexual content.

For detailing the juicy documents and photos he claims to have found on a $15 Apple Time Capsule he allegedly purchased from the thrift retailer, a German TikToker known online as @dankeunextgay is going viral.

The TikToker recorded a video on December 14 in which he showed viewers his MacBook being backed up by files from the previous owner that went back to 2010 when the wireless router was reportedly last used. He found that the previous owner, who is only identified as “Don,”did not delete their information off of it before they donated it,” when he plugged it into his laptop.

He captioned the clip which has earned 5.6 million views that says,This is [kinda] scary.”

More information regarding the Time Capsule, which Apple discontinued in 2018, was provided in a two-minute follow-up video. “I’m sorry, Don, that I’m going through your s–t,” he said, only identifying the man by his first name.

“Instead of having just one backup, it has a whole list of backups. That way, if you want to go back to a certain period, you’re able to just go there instead,” the TikToker revealed. So it’s not just one copy of his computer, it’s dozens from different time periods dating back to 2010.”

Dating all the way back to the 1980s, the Time Capsule, which had not been used since 2010, was first revealed to have many of Don’s old photographs. And that’s all, the TikToker got access to this man’s financial data.

“There is audit history, credit card numbers, flight information. I have this man’s bank account number,” the TikToker said. “I can see how much money he had in the bank at one point. I even have his life insurance information, and this dude is worth millions of dollars.”

He continued: “Now, keep in mind, this is from, like, 2010, so he’s probably dead by now. But still, the fact that I have access to this is crazy.”

In what appears to be good news for Don, the TikToker claimed he would delete all of his info once he was done looking through it.

“It serves me no purpose, and I feel uncomfortable keeping other people’s stuff,he said. “It was insane.”

“And to answer the question that I know that everyone’s gonna ask, there was porn,” he added. “So, there you have it.”

“Do not donate your old technology to Goodwill,” the TikToker warns.

In a third video, he explained that he is looking for Don’s relatives to return his Time Capsule intact.

“I don’t feel comfortable having it, and I don’t want to just delete it, so I’m gonna see if I can find at least someone to give it to,” he said before announcing he will browse thrift stores to find spicy information on similar devices.
