Toby Keith, a country artist, provided an update on his battle with stomach cancer.
At the People’s Choice Country Awards on Thursday night, the 62-year-old celebrity became the inaugural winner of the Country Icon Award. Right before the event, he provided an update on his health.
“I feel pretty good,” Keith told E! News in an interview ahead of the awards show. “It’s a little bit of a roller coaster,” he added.
Keith previously said that he was diagnosed with stomach cancer in the fall of 2021 and had been undergoing treatment for several months.
“You get good days and, you know, you’re up and down, up and down. It’s always zero to 60 and 60 to zero, but I feel good today,” the singer went on.
The musician said it was “nice to recognize my 30-year career” at the awards show. “It’s pretty mind-boggling,” Keith said. “Those years of pounding those songs out there and remembering where you were when each one was conceived and all that, it’s amazing.”
Keith attributed his faith to helping him get through his cancer struggle in a separate interview with Fox News Digital.
“You gotta’ do what you gotta’ do, and I don’t know how people do it without faith … that’s what I did, it was my rock.”
Keith further stated that if “everything goes good,” he plans to return to performing in the fall.
The musician has been keeping fans up to date on his condition.
“Last fall I was diagnosed with stomach cancer,” Keith tweeted in June 2022. “I’ve spent the last 6 months receiving chemo, radiation and surgery. So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover and relax.”
“I am looking forward to spending this time with my family,” he went on. “But I will see the fans sooner than later. I can’t wait.”
Keith later stated that the tumor had shrunk to one-third of its original size as a result of rigorous therapy.
“I’m feeling pretty good,” the country star told The Oklahoman in early June. “Basically, everything is in a real positive trend. You never know with cancer, so you have to prepare.”
Toby is my absolute favorite. He is a staunch conservative who adores his nation.
