After a disastrous marketing campaign using transgender male influencer Dylan Mulvaney, Anheuser-Busch’s U.S. marketing boss Benoit Garbe has announced his resignation, effective at the end of the year.
Garbe, who’s been in charge of the company’s U.S. portfolio of beers, canned drinks, and non-alcoholic beverages since 2021, “will be resigning at the end of the year to embark on a new chapter in his career,” Anheuser-Busch said in a statement, The New York Post reported.
“This week we announced key changes to our US leadership team that reduce layers within our organization and better enable our top commercial leaders to drive our business and legacy forward,” Anheuser-Busch CEO Brendan Whitworth told the Post.

“These senior leadership changes will accelerate our return to growth as we continue to focus on what we do best—brewing great beer for everyone and earning our place in moments that matter,” he added.
According to CNN’s reporting, Kyle Norrington, Anheuser-Busch’s current U.S. Chief Commercial Officer, will succeed Garbe in his role in the new year.
The controversy surrounding the Mulvaney campaign led to the departures of several senior executives, including Alissa Heinerscheid, vice president of marketing for Bud Light, and Daniel Blake, vice president of Anheuser-Busch’s mainstream portfolio.
A widespread boycott of Bud Light erupted after the trans-identifying activist collaborated with the brand to market its beer earlier this year, causing sales to plummet. Even after more than two decades at the top, Bud Light is no longer America’s favorite beer.
Mulvaney, frustrated by the “hate and vitriol” he had received in response to the relationship, advocated that businesses, instead of engaging in “performative” marketing directed at transgender people, should instead develop genuine partnerships with trans-identified spokespersons.
“If you’re going to ask us to capitalize on our vulnerabilities and our traumas, at least have our backs when the going gets tough,” Mulvaney told Seth Matlins, managing director of the Forbes CMO Network, at the 2023 Forbes CMO Summit in Miami.
