She Said She Was Just Doing Her Job, And She Ended Up fighting For Her Life….

Words like brave and heroic may come to mind when considering the top qualities of a police officer. After all, police officers are the public’s first line of defense. They are the people who deal with local threats and emergencies. They work to keep criminals off the streets and to keep citizens and their communities safe. This is not an easy job, and officers must have many skills in addition to strength and bravery to be successful.

But most police officers today are passionate about serving their communities and have the necessary training to carry out their jobs. They have honed skills in emergency response, decision-making, public communication, ethics, and empathy

Although, a police career is a challenging and sometimes dangerous choice; it is not just writing out tickets or making a traffic stop, police work has always been difficult–they are dealing with criminals on a daily basis, unsociable hours, and dangerous scenarios.

Though this work can be extremely rewarding, it does come with some risks. While they carry out their job perfectly, they also have a high risk of workplace injury—just like Kristen Richmond, a Brooke County sheriff’s deputy.

Officer Kristen Richmond Shares Desperate Fight For Her Life

After a violent fight with an alleged drug-addicted suspect, Deputy Richmond from West Virginia is lucky to be alive.

According to KHQ-TV, Brooke County Sheriff’s Department K9 Deputy Richmond encountered a potentially life-threatening situation with a drug-addled suspect.

Richmond was dispatched to Bethany College in Bethany, West Virginia, in response to a report of a man throwing items out of a third-floor window on the school’s campus.

The suspect was later identified as 21-year-old Brandon Lamar Jackson of Georgia.

Richmond found Brandon Lamar Jackson naked and bleeding. She tried to approach him and ask what happened, but Jackson had a blank stare.

The station also added that Jackson “appeared to be on drugs and hallucinating” and began fighting with Richmond.

In a statement released by Captain Darin Pizer  for the sheriff’s office, stated that, “The deputy attempted to detain the subject, who pulled away, attempted to strike the deputy in the face then began to flee on foot. The deputy then began to pursue after the subject. A K-9 was deployed, the subject then curled up in a corner of the exterior of one of the buildings.”

The Deputy was then left with a broken nose, fractured sinus, busted glasses, and numerous bumps and bruises as a result of the “all-out fight.”

Following the confrontation, the officer took to social media to tell her side of the story.

Richmond wrote what she called “probably one of the rawest posts” she’d written in a lengthy Facebook post that has been liked and shared over 100,000 times.

“While fighting with this guy, he reached for my duty weapon,” Richmond wrote, “Given the circumstances (full details are not being disclosed in this post), deadly force was warranted and it was probably getting close to my last resort. Thankfully, it did not reach that point.”

Richmond said that the fight lasted about five minutes.

“During said altercation, my glasses were shattered and knocked off my face, none of my radio transmissions got out, and a ton of equipment was stripped from my vest and duty belt,” she explained, but added that despite all this, she was able to remain in the fight.

Although Richmond claimed she was able to put one of the suspect’s hands in handcuffs and release her K9 companion, the allegedly drugged-up suspect continued to approach.

“All the K9 bites, punches, knees, and baton strikes did not deter this guy,” she wrote. “He wasn’t there. The drug had consumed every part of him.”

Richmond claimed that the hefty suspect had been trading blows with her for almost five minutes when her partners eventually located her and worked together to take the suspect into custody. Richmond explained, “I’ve been beat to hell and back in training so I knew how to react and fight through being repeatedly being struck in the face and head. I didn’t freak out … I knew I was okay and still in the fight.”

This post isn’t to be all bravado,” she cautioned. “I got my a** kicked this morning (there’s no doubt about it), but I also gave it right back.”

She continued by saying that her three partners also deserved praise, pointing out that if they hadn’t stepped in at that precise moment, the outcome definitely would have been much worse.”

“The purpose of this post is three-fold,” Richmond wrote.First and foremost, I implore you to train! Thank God I do. You don’t want to be in the fight for your life wishing you had done more to prepare for that exact moment.”

“Second, bond with your partners,” she warned. They’re your family and when you find yourself in a dark corner at 0300 praying for backup, they’re gonna be the ones who come running.”

“Last, but not least, this is for the families, friends, and/or critics,” Richmond wrote. “After hours at the hospital and being treated for a broken nose, a fractured sinus, and some other minor bumps and lacerations to my hands, face, and head I went home.

“I took my bloody uniform, duty belt, and gear inside with me and dropped it on the floor,” she continued.I took my tired K9 partner to her crate so she could get some much deserved rest.

“I went upstairs, undressed, turned on the hot water in the shower, stepped in, and washed his and my blood off my body,” Richmond wrote. “I watched it circle the drain not knowing whose exactly it was. Not a lot of people know what it’s like to do that.

“No, we don’t get into fights like these everyday but they do happen … along with situations that are far worse,” she concluded. “Please take a few moments to consider everything that we go through before jumping to conclusions based off slanted media and facts. At the end of the day, we are exactly like all of you ‘normal’ people. We just want to go home after work.”
