One day in rural Indiana, when the sun was shining and the sky was blue, a 9-year-old girl felt something. It was not a normal feeling like joy, anger, or disgust – but something bigger, grander. It compelled Elysia Laub to leave her home and walk into her backyard.
She knew it was crazy to listen to the “voice in her head,” but Laub also knew that sometimes God sent messages in strange ways.
And because this 9-year-old guardian angel listened to the call of God, she was able to save the life of the newborn baby, who has been nicknamed “Miracle Jane Doe.”
Hear more about Laub’s divine inspiration and the baby’s fate below!
When she found the child, the baby was helpless and all alone. And the baby was really hungry.
“I just saw pink legs kicking away,” she said. “I knew it was alive and I knew we had something. I could not second guess myself. I knew we had to get help.”
Because her little hard did not understand the depravity that some adults descend to, she assumed the baby was a pig or a battery-operated doll. But upon closer look, she could not deny the truth – it was a newborn human baby abandoned to the fate of the world.
The naked and crying newborn girl was terrified. Because she was raised right, Elysia Laub ran to get her mother, who didn’t believe her daughter one bit. But then she followed her and found the atrocious sight of the abandoned baby.
Mrs. Laub scooped the baby up and wrapped her in a blanket, and then called 911.
Not only was the newborn abandoned, she suffered sunburns and was covered with bugs. Plus, the baby’s umbilical cord was still attached. Police knew then that she had been dumped after delivery.
Sherriff John Buncich said, “[It’s] a miracle that Elysia was out there to find her.”
When asked about how she had found the baby, Elysia gave all the credit to God.
